Sustainability
Sustainability and Recycling at Steer Commercial Heathrow
Driving Sustainable Accident Repair at Heathrow
At Steer Commercial Heathrow, sustainability is embedded in everything we do – from how we repair vehicles to how we manage our facilities.
As part of Steer Group, we operate under a robust, independently validated environmental framework that prioritises measurable impact, continuous improvement and long-term responsibility.
Our Commitment: The Steer ARIES Programme
Our approach is guided by Steer Group’s ARIES (Accident Repair Industry Environmental Standard) programme: a structured, data-led pathway designed specifically for the vehicle repair sector.
Through ARIES, we follow a clear measure → reduce → verify → accredit methodology, ensuring our environmental performance is both accountable and continuously improving. The programme aligns with internationally recognised standards including ISO 14068-1 / PAS2060 and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
- Third-party verified carbon measurement and reporting
- Insurer-grade environmental assurance
- Group-wide consistency across all sites
- Clear reduction targets, not just offsetting
Carbon Performance & ESG Leadership
As part of Steer Group, our Heathrow site contributes to a nationally coordinated sustainability strategy that delivers measurable results:
- ESG rating: “Leading” (FY Apr 2024 – Mar 2025)
- Maintained carbon-neutral operations
- Average footprint of ~156.4 kg CO₂e per job (Scopes 1–3)
- Clear year-on-year reduction trajectory
With specialist support from ECA Business Energy, the Group collects detailed operational data to track emissions, set reduction targets and ensure transparent reporting.

What This Means at Heathrow
At a local level, our commitment translates into practical actions across our site, processes and supply chain.
1. Reducing emissions at source
Upgraded spray booth efficiency
Reduced bake cycle times to lower energy consumption
Ongoing investment in energy-efficient equipment
Focus on operational efficiencies before offsetting
2. Responsible energy use
Electricity and gas procured via TotalEnergies green supply
Continuous monitoring of energy consumption to identify savings
3. Waste management & recycling
We recycle all major waste streams, including metals, plastics, cardboard, tyres, oils, aerosols and hazardous materials. Our priority is to minimise waste at source and maximise reuse and recycling wherever possible.
4. People, process & longevity
At Steer Commercial Heathrow, our experienced team, strong throughput capability and long-standing employee retention underpin consistent, high-quality repair outcomes. Many of our colleagues have over 25 years of service, bringing deep technical expertise and a culture of care that supports both efficiency and sustainability.
5. Aligned with national strategy
Building on CarComm Coachwork’s Carbon Neutrality status since 2023, and continued reduction in carbon emissions since – all local activity at Heathrow is aligned with Steer Group’s national environmental strategy, ensuring consistency of standards, reporting and performance across every site.
6. Award-winning sustainability
Steer Commercial Heathrow builds on a strong legacy of environmental leadership, with the site – formerly CarComm Coachworks – recognised as one of the UK’s most progressive commercial repair facilities for sustainability.
Multiple award have been achieved for sustainability and innovation in the commercial repair sector (in years 2022, 2023, 2024).
- Greener Bodyshop of the Year (2022, 2023, and 2024)
- Carbon Footprint Year-on-Year Improver (2023 and 2024)
- Sustainability Award Winner (2025)
These achievements now contribute to Steer Group’s wider environmental performance, strengthening our collective commitment to raising standards across the industry.
7. Looking ahead
We are committed to continually improving our environmental performance—reducing emissions, increasing efficiency and supporting the transition to a more sustainable future for the accident repair industry.
